Day 23, Silsbee, Texas, 58 miles, 1,016 miles total

Today was a day of beautiful, wide shoulders with the exception of about 10 miles on a shoulderless, two-lane backroad.  The backroad had very little traffic, but it also had a 70 mph speed limit.

Where I'm from fog is always associated with cold weather.  It's so bizarre to be riding in fog while wearing shorts and sweating.

Yeah, right!

Before long I was at the Texas border.

Texas!!

The Sabine River marks the border between Texas and Louisiana.

I thought it would be appropriate to put Lyle Lovett on the mp3 player, especially to hear the Texas River Song.

Now, the girls of Little River
They're plump and they're pretty
The Sabine and the Sulphur
Hold beauties a'many
On the banks of the Neches
There are girls by the score
But down by the Brazos I'll wander no more

Or...."Tejas" for the Spanish speakers out there.

So far the roads are quite good in Texas.  They still lose the shoulder when they pass through towns, but I'm getting used to that.

There were some gently rolling hills today combined with long stretches of flat riding.  And thunderstorms are in the forecast again all week, but, today anyway, I got to the motel a few hours before they started up.

It's still hot too, but it's tolerable until the afternoon when I'm already done riding for the day.  I'm thinking that once I'm west of Austin and gaining elevation, I'll be leaving the excess heat and humidity behind, which is just fine with me.  But hopefully it won't go to extremes in the opposite direction.  I hate cold worse than heat.
