Day 22 - Dequincy, La, 39 miles, 958 miles total

I guess the self treatment I did on my quad yesterday worked.  I had no problem with it today.  I'd like to take this moment to thank the most amazing Physical Therapist I know for her helpful advice.  Z, you are a true wonder.

These bayous intrigue me.  I keep looking for gators even though we all know they're fake news.

None here either.  What a shock.

I learned something else on this trip besides the fact that gators are more rare than unicorns.  And that is that Dollar General is secretly infiltrating every nook and cranny of the U.S., likely in preparation of staging a coup and driving all other retailers out of business.

I did a good deed today.  I found this dude in the middle of the westbound traffic lane, hiding inside his shell every time another 60 mph vehicle straddled him.  Like the proverbial chicken, he was trying to cross the road.  I gave him (or her?) a lift to the other side when traffic cleared.  But even then, he kept hiding from me.  Ingrate.

A sad reminder to drive safely.  Four kids (18 to 21) died here on November 2, 2008. Be careful out there folks.

It would be a lot easier to tell which state you're looking at on a map if they were all shaped like the first letter in their name.  Louisiana's founders were very insightful.

Yes, but where's De Train, boss?

Come along for a few seconds of the ride today.

It's hard to believe I'm almost done with Louisiana now.  Tomorrow I will cross into the Lone Star State.  Four states down, four to go.  But Texas is going to be a tough one.  Lots of hills and lots (and LOTS) of miles.

Z will be joining me for a little break in Austin one week from today.  I am really looking forward to that.

  2. Austin is a fabulous place. Actually has a living heart unlike most other big US cities. And doesn't sprawl as badly.. If you like swimming have a look at the beautiful open water swimming at Barton springs pool
