Day 3 - Ichetucknee Springs State Park, 47 miles, 150 miles total
I wish I could stay at a motel every night while it's this hot and humid. But that would obviously make this a very expensive trip. So tonight I'm camping for the first time and I really wish I wasn't, even though this is a nice and inexpensive campground (only $11 for cyclists).
My campsite at Ichetucknee Springs
I've been here before. Not to the campground, but to the gem of a little spring-fed river that is a very popular spot for the tubing crowd. My late, ex father in law lived near here and my first wife and I would sometimes come out to visit.
Carl was a real character, a true southern gentleman who had a limitless supply of off-color jokes. He called me GAY-ra. He brought us here to tube the Ichetucknee, and I had never seen a more beautiful little stream with water so clear that you could see the bottom 20 feet down. As we floated along, turtles would scurry off of logs that they'd be hanging out on.
I'm embarrassed to say that I forgot to mention Carl at the beginning of this blog. He died of cancer in the early 1990s. I will always miss his dry wit and irreverent humor.

Many of the roads around here have an accompanying paved path
An accident along the way that delayed traffic for 20 minutes. No injuries. I realized later that I had missed a turn about a half mile before this so waited through it for nothing. Doh.
A very annoying attempt at a rumble strip that takes up the entire bike lane. Fifteen miles of teeth rattling fun.
It was a very hot day today. The camp host says 97, and with the humidity it felt well over 100. It's 6:30 pm and it's still sweltering. Sure wish it would cool down.
It's Friday night and people are streaming in to the campground. There's a guy across from me who has been trying to back his 30 foot trailer into a huge site for at least an hour. He might be running out of gas soon.

I loving the daily news. We stayed at another spring place nearby and it was amazing... Julian
