Day 10 - Crestview, Fl, 59 miles, 453 miles total

It was another nice riding day today.  I was on Hwy 90 most of the time, with its nice, smooth shoulders and relatively light traffic.  There was even a light tailwind which is always appreciated.

The first town I came to was Caryville.

I'm not sure what "worm fiddlin" is and maybe it's just as well I don't find out.

The rolling hills that were so frequent last week have diminished quite a bit and there are now fairly long stretches of flat riding between occasional hills.  And the Love Bugs have all but disappeared, thankfully.

Love Bugs are these black flies that are about a half inch long and are seemingly everywhere.  They don't bite or sting but they are very annoying just because they get in your face, you're food, you're drink, etc.  They seem to be mating almost all the time, which I guess is how they got their name.  I think "Lust Bugs" would have been more accurate though.  They're alarmingly promiscuous.

There were train tracks paralleling Hwy 90 today but I couldn't see them through the thick vegetation.  Every so often I would hear a train horn but I never did see one.  But when crossing the Choctawatchee River I finally saw the tracks.

I'd be a little nervous driving a train over that rusty hunk of metal

Awhile later I found the town I'd been searching for my entire life.

Is it......really?

Every day I have been passing marshes, creeks, rivers and lakes.  Every time I pass one I look for gators.  There was a beautiful lilly-filled lake along the route today that I got a photo of.

Still no gators.  I'm beginning to think this gator thing is an elaborate hoax.

I made it to Crestview around noon.  The receptionist at the motel was going to charge me $10 for an early check-in.  But ultimately she took pity on the overheated, sweat-drenched geezer and waived the fee.  Maybe my crying and sniveling helped too.

For the second day in a row the skies opened up just after I got in my room.  I must be doing something right.
